Rotary drum screens

Drum screens are used in rotary sieves. They are mainly used in the process of processing mineral raw materials and recycling – processing solid waste and bulk materials. Drum screens are used for mechanical separation of various materials with different fraction sizes (over and under the sieve). These may include bulky household waste, industrial waste, plastic film, paper, glass, asphalt, compressed bales, electrical scrap, various composite materials and solar panels. They are shredded and separated as easily as old and demolition wood, green waste, biomass or plant roots.

Information leaflet

Drum screens are used in both stationary and mobile devices. The solid construction and simple principle of operation make drum screens ideal for working with various materials, waste, aggregates and production raw materials.

Thanks to the use of appropriate sieves and drums, drum screeners are able to perform the initial classification of medium and coarse-grained materials, as well as separate various fractions of waste and raw materials, which enables their further processing. Drum screens are an effective segregation tool that offers many advantages over other methods. One of the greatest advantages is their efficiency – drum sieves are able to process large amounts of waste in a short time.
Another advantage of drum screens is their versatility. They can be used to segregate various types of waste, including paper, plastic, glass, metal and many others. Drum screens can also be adapted to various sizes and shapes of waste, which increases their versatility. These types of devices are also easy to operate and maintain. Unlike other sorting methods, such as manual sorting or magnetic separators, drum strainers do not require much work. The segregation process is automated, which helps minimize costs and increase efficiency.

The drum screen is the basic element of the sieve, as it performs the tasks assigned to the sieve. It is equipped with special sieve plates with burnt holes of appropriate shape and size selected in the design phase. The drum screen can be manufactured according to the customer’s request (round or square perforation, mesh with any mesh size and mesh arrangement). It is possible to make the drum according to the individual design of our customers.

Principle of operation of the drum screen:

The principle of operation of the screeners is simple, while ensuring very high effectiveness and efficiency of the devices. Drum screens are most often used in the mining industry for obtaining construction aggregates. They are also used to prepare wood biomass, in the segregation of municipal and industrial waste, and are also widely used in agriculture.

The most frequently separated materials are:

  • earth
  • biomass
  • compost
  • comunal and industrial solid wastes
  • mineral raw materials and aggregates (e.g. coal or sand)

Division of drum screens:

  • Monolithic: It is used in both types of sieves: stationary and mobile machines. They are characterized by high stiffness and constitute a compact and durable structure. Most often, they are equipped with a spiral ribbon welded to the inner surface of the screen. In addition to the transport function, the spiral also stiffens the entire drum structure, creating a monolithic whole with the remaining elements (i.e. rings, raceways, etc.). The use of this type of drum structure allows for reducing its own weight compared to a frame structure with replaceable sieve inserts.
  • Sectional: The drum sieve consists of the so-called frame to which perforated sheets or woven mesh are attached. This method of installation (inside or outside the structure) allows for quick replacement of screens appropriately adapted to the processed raw material. When using woven meshes, good self-cleaning properties are additionally achieved through vibrations generated during drum operation. Sieves with a skeleton structure are most often used in stationary machines.

Eco-Engineering

Ecological engineering is a term that has been in development for several decades, but it is guided by the idea of designing devices and services in such a way that they bring benefits to companies, society globally and the nature and ecosystems surrounding us. Drum sieves manufactured by 4INDUSTRY are ideal, economically reasonable solutions for companies that value the best quality of devices tailored to individual requirements and the best market solutions in the field of recycling.
